Coffee & Brain Dust

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

How do you take your coffee?

I love this question.

I typically take mine black...or adaptogen-filled with oatmilk. YUM.

If you're anything like me, from time to time you may find yourself looking down longingly and delightfully into the perfect cup of coffee and brain fuel that you just whipped up — it's a good feeling isn't it? And if not, maybe you just need to add some brain fuel by way of adaptogen adders to your java. In any case, read on!

Hello, hi! Welcome. If you’re new here, let me introduce a slice of my life and personality by way of my coffee preferences.

Guys, I live for a good cup of coffee. I lived in Seattle for 10 years, and I earned my coffee snob badge proudly. We used to have 6 ways to brew the perfect cup in our house, and now we have 4, and mostly just use the French Press on the daily, plus what has now become an almost habitual afternoon sauced-up Nespresso pull, because #WFHWK and #TreatYoself.

My coffee preferences have evolved over the years. Thanks to some solid vice detoxes of the past. When I removed caffeine altogether for an extended period of time (~2-4 weeks), I was actually able to significantly cut down on my consumption (there was a time when I was drinking wayyy too much) and recalibrate my taste for it and sensitivity towards it, so that I now prefer to take my first half-cup, black (pre-gym at 5 AM). And then on the mornings when I’m not whipping up a collagen peptide adaptogen matcha, I make one of my Fancy High Maintenance Lattes with the other half cup, in misto/au lait form (or latte with shot of espresso), with good for you ingredients and adaptogens for enjoyment, slow sipping, and brain fuel.

In my early college years I used to think coffee was fuel...and then (thankfully) I got smart and realized that a.m. workouts, plus consuming an insane amount of water, plus feeding my body with energizing foods, plus prioritizing good quality sleep, plus a single cup of coffee, is actually the right fuel.

I’ve always loved adding adaptogens into the mix, and recently started using #MoonJuice blends. This weeks #FancyCoffee has Brain Dust and TOCOS in it, here are the deets:

  • 1/2 c coffee from French Press, medium roast

  • Half cup steamed oat milk

  • 1 tsp TOCOS

  • 1/2 tsp Brain Dust @MoonJuice

  • 1/2 tsp honey from my (moms) hives

  • Dash cinnamon

Whip/froth together and Traaa-La (as my mom would say): instant brain fuel.

This coffee mug is from one of our favorite Seattle coffee roasters;

Storyville we love you.

Try it! Let me know what you think.

xx, Danielle
