Can You Hear Yourself Think?

Updated: Oct 18, 2020

When’s the last time you heard yourself think?

No, seriously. Can you remember the last time you were actually able to have a complete thought free of distraction?, or think through a problem?, or journal out free thought or a write list of something fun that wasn’t a to do list? If you can’t remember, then we need to have a little chat.

First: I get and respect that you are insanely busy — it’s not easy living a full Boss Lady life.

Second, if you have little people that you’re responsible for or are in the thick of some crazy abnormal-ness in your “regularly scheduled program” (like a pandemic, job loss, relationship challenges, or just good old change!) everything feels hard, and I feel you.

BUT. All that aside, I know first hand how important it is to make time for yourself, to hear yourself think every day, and #PutYourOxygenMaskOnFirst. And listen, you don’t need hours. You just need something that gives you a daily mental reset so that you can give to everything else in your life.

Here are 3 quick tips to prioritize think time:

  1. Morning routine. Got one? If you don’t have one it’s time to get one. Pencil in your free thought time before your household wakes up. Need inspo? Head to my post on My Morning Routine: 6 Things I do to Crush the Day for ideas! PRO TIP: don’t touch your phone or watch news until your morning routine is complete.

  2. Prioritize fitness everyday, ideally first thing in the morning. There’s nothing like the gift of feel good and good-for-you endorphins to get the brain juice flowing. I do my best thinking during and after a work out! PRO TIP: keep a post-it and pen beside your workout setup to capture your genius ideas.

  3. Fuel your body with good fuel for energy and good food for thought. Because if all else fails, and you have zero minutes left for a moment of peace, doing this will set you up to feel good and think more positively about yourself. Choose healthy foods consistently and drink all the damn water. Set boundaries on what you consume (people, social media, news, ideas etc...) — you are what you consume!

What do YOU do to find time to THINK, or to show your brain some love?!

4th quarter of the year! LFG. We’ve got this.

xx, Danielle
